Researchers Present School Food Waste Study in Cyprus

Researchers from the InDeRe Food Research and Innovation Institute participated in the 12th International Conference on Sustainable Solid Waste Management in Cyprus, where they presented their research findings under the title "Reducing Food Waste in Schools: A Path Toward Sustainability."

The study presented analyzed the causes of food waste generated in school catering. The research processed data from 86,037 lunch portions based on 280 measurements across more than 110 educational institutions. The results showed that 52.15 percent of the prepared meals became waste, clearly indicating a significant need for data-driven, sustainability-focused developments in school public catering.

The conference participation provided an opportunity for the institute to present its research aimed at reducing school food waste to an international professional audience and to reaffirm its commitment to developing more sustainable public catering systems.
